Most amazing wash day ever

My hair has been frustrating me for the past couple of weeks. I was dealing with breakage and hair that was not looking at its best. That all changed today as I decided to try a new combination of products and now I am so happy. I just finished my happy dance and woke my mom up to swing my hair from side to side for her to show her just how pretty it looked.

This is what I did.

I shampooed with my Optimum Oil Therapy Shampoo
Deep conditioned with Nexxus Humectress Ultimate Moisture Conditioner
After I applied Organics Olive Oil Leave In Conditioner, Neutrogena Silk Touch Leave-In and used my Motions Nourish Leave-In as my setting lotion.
I then roller set my hair and after removing the rollers added a dab of the Neutrogena Leave-In and a bit of coconut oil.

I found the Nexxus to be a bit on the pricey side but it is so worth it. I parted my hair in small sections and applied just a dab to each section and smoothed it in from root to tip. I used the conditioner like a moisturiser, as if I was moisturising my hair. This prevented me from being too heavy handed. I felt like it was absorbed into my hair. My hair had bounce to it even before I deep conditioned with it. I applied a shower cap and sat under the dryer for 20 minutes. What I noticed when I went to rinse out the conditioner was that I felt as if the conditioner had been absorbed into my hair. There was very little conditioner that actually washed out. Now this Nexxus is not an actual deep conditioner, but I loved the way it worked as one.

I will be testing out this regimen for a bit. If I am able to recreate the look and feel of my hair each time I use it, then I will make this my permanent regimen. I am even thinking of testing out the Nexxus Shampoo as I do think the Optimum one is a bit drying. A lot of these products are silicone heavy and after my silicone-provoked setback I was concerned about using them, however, the difference is that this time I am sticking with sulphate shampoos. This is what works best for my hair.

  1. Glad you liked the Nexxus Humectress, its my HG Moisturizing Conditioner.
I add a couple oils to mine - a mixture of coconut, jojoba and sweet almond.
And to combat the hard water we seem have in Trinidad which tends to make my hair a bit dry, first I rinse the conditioner from my hair with the water coming through the shower, but for my final rinse I use 1 bottled water.
The result.... Super soft moisturized hair.

    1. Thanks for the comment Jill. I was actually thinking of using Blue Waters as a final rinse after I heard that water is slightly acidic and would help to seal the cuticle.

    1. I got mine in Pennywise, Trincity Mall. It was $69.95 which I found to be pretty pricey.

  4. Hi Carolyn, its been a while since I have been able to check your blog, I'm happy that things are getting back on track with your hair journey. I used some of nexxus line years ago, the shampoo, conditioner and leave in, it worked great, then the salon I got it from stopped bringing the line. I'm getting a little breakage, maybe I'm just paranoid but I would rather be safe than sorry, so I had decided to order nexxus humectress and matrix biolage conditioning balm this weekend. Did you buy the nexxus conditioner locally?? If so, where?

    1. Hi Candice,

I got my Nexxus at Pennywise, Trincity Mall. I believe I spotted Matrix products for sale in the hair salon in West Mall. Didn't go in to ask the price though.

    2. Thanks Carolyn, does that pennywise carry any other nexxus products? And most importantly, are they consistent. They are not very good at keeping the good stuff coming.

    3. They only had the conditioner and not the shampoo. To be honest there were very few bottles of conditioner. I also spotted the leave-in conditioner. I am not sure if they are consistent with importing it. It might depend on how popular a product it is.

  5. It's so great when you feel like your finally understanding your hair!

There have been times where I thought I would never be able to 'listen' to my hair, but this proves it, take your time and be patient :)

    1. Yup I think my set back was caused by being too product crazy and trying everything that other people recommended rather than not listening to my hair. I am happy with how my hair looks and feels so now I am all about growing out my problem areas.

  6. I don't use silicones but I have a few exceptions.. I'm not sure if its bad for my hair but it's definitely not good, never seen any benefits from using them :) .. Following hun!! x
